I'm not gonna lie, it's been a tough go church planting in Aldergrove. Sure, maybe our strategy has been a bit off - the "field of dreams" ideal ('if you build it they will come') may not work anywhere other than pockets of America that still hold the echo of Christendom. But we've come to terms with it; church planting in Aldergrove is tough. It's 'hard soil'. It's a tough place. There's a spiritual lethargy and apathy, a certain humanist pride, a polite cursory not toward things of God but nothing more.
And Aldergrove is NOT sexy. Church planting bootcamps and podcasts and other training resources tell us to go into the cities, the major urban centres, the world-shifting cultural centres of our planet. It's obvious that Aldergrove is not one of those places. Yet there are thousands of people here living purposeless lives, dead to the Lord. My heart aches for them. God is not finished with them. And I feel like I'm fighting alone.
I ask people to join me. In Vancouver, maybe they would. Maybe they would move to Whistler. I could find a group to start with in Victoria or Kelowna. But Aldergrove? Naw, there are better ways to spend my life, thank you. So I pray to the Lord of the harvest to send His workers into this harvest field. This week I prayed that God would rain down blessing on this parched ground, this area of Aldergrove. It reminded me of a song I wrote long ago:
We've said our prayers, You've heard our cries
We've shed our tears, You've dried our eyes
And all that we long for we can not yet see
Release Your annointing, let it flow through me
Send Your rain, showers of blessing
Send Your rain, showers of love
They're so confused, don't know Your peace
They don't know Your love, Lord
Help them to see
All that we long for we have yet to see
Please release Your promise, love's victory
Send Your rain, showers of blessing
Send Your rain, showers of love
Please pray for Aldergrove. Pray for people to join us in planting a church here. Pray and ask God if you might be one to join us. Pray for us to find and join community - friends who we can partner with in this. Pray for showers of blessing on this spiritually dry ground. Pray for Access Church in Aldergrove.
