I'm definitely tracking with Emergent Reformers as Mark Driscoll describes it here. Especially the emphasis on reformed theology and charismatic belief and practice. What are your thoughts?
He takes a pretty big stick to the "emerging liberals." Not sure I agree with his stance.
Is it okay to be a Christian and a homosexual? I wonder what his answer would be if asked is it okay to gossip and be a Christian? Gossip is listed in the same verses as homosexuality (Romans 1:36-31)
I think the issue for most is not that Christians believe homosexuality is a sin it's that it's treated differently than other more "acceptable" sins.
I agree with you, Derian. I think at issue is what you and I and Mark might term 'homosexuality'. If it is a lifestyle, continued unashamed, practiced and engaged in, then I would agree with Mark - there's a serious problem with somebody who chooses that and says they follow Jesus. But if you term 'homosexuality' as 'same-sex attraction', then you're dealing with fallen humans like anybody else - somebody with a porn problem, a gambling issue, a lust problem, and who's dealing with it, and NOT giving into sin. You can be any of those guys and still be a Jesus-follower.
I think Mark was more talking about the first category - somebody who chooses a homosexual lifestyle that is in direct conflict with God's pattern, and claim to follow God's pattern...
BTW Derian, knowing the people you work with, I wanted to make this PS... I wouldn't say a new Christian who still engages in homosexual behavior isn't a Christian, simply an immature disciple who needs to be lovingly led out of that lifestyle.
