2 Timothy 3:2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,
4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.

I find it interesting that in so many of the New Testament lists of things that grieve God, disobeying parents is listed along with murder, hate, and homosexuality. The same is true of the Old Testament list of commandments. Number 5, honour your parents.
We Christians are so quick to point at others who sin by practicing homosexuality, yet we excuse our own gross sins - and perhaps that's the greatest sin of all. Jesus calls us hypocites when we clearly see the speck in somebody else's eye and not the log in our own (http://esv.to/Luke6.41-42). It's time for us to practice careful self-examination, recognizing the sin in ourselves and glorifying God for saving us, not FROM sinful behaviors but because of our sinfulness. Maybe when we recognize our own transgressions against a mighty and holy God, then we can have compassion on others who have also transgressed. Maybe when we see that God in His mercy has saved us from our sins, despite the fact that we continue in our sins, then we can rejoice also that God in His mercy is wanting to save others as well. Maybe then we'll posses the understanding and compassion it takes to share Good News for the world, which isn't just for moral deists like ourselves.
Just some food for thought.
